Dual-boot Newb

One thing that stopped working in all this is the HP keyboard’s sleep button. So I made a shortcut for it, a pleasant reminder of my debacle...

%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState

edit: Never mind, my power control panel settings got rewrote.

You're close, you just need to add more of what exactly you're looking for in your search box.

If I could get a yay or nay from a mod about linking to that repository, it would certainly cut down on the beating-around-the-bush.

Also, ANY windows boot/install CD, XP or later, will work in your situation and what you're trying to do with it.

I'll look into it for you

I checked into it, it's a nay on linking to that.

Alright, so that's out. Sorry Jefboyardee, you gotta find that one on your own.

....Perhaps it's possible to somehow extract FIXBOOT and FIXMBR from the recovery console, zip it up and attach here or something? Granted, I've no idea if they'll even work out of the recovery console environment, but short of literally borrowing an XP/7/8 CD from a friend, I'm out of ideas for now.

‘Sokay, it’s right there on the general tab of msconfig... Launch System Restore. Or, I can just click General and it pops up in the boot.ini tab.

So I can get it started, but as of yesterday’s attempts it just led to the BSOD. Now I’m scairt to even try fixboot, being that I already got almost everything back by doing fixmbr.

I really don’t have any OS backup, so I shouldn’t be in this neighborhood in the first place.
