Dumb KitKat Notification Icons

Anyone know how to get rid of these worthless icons taking up space in the notification bar?

Pressing takes me to the app but there is no setting to disable this particular icon.

Do I REALLY need to know that Handcent is running in the background? Or that I'm roaming? :p

Silly.

That feature started with Android 4.3 and I believe it's for security. It's meant to alert you to sneaky apps that run in the background and can't be killed.

Here's a little read about it.

You do have the option to disable notifications on any app. You can get there easily by longpressing the notification and go to app info. From there you uncheck "show notifications".

Though, I'm not sure that you can do that with system apps... You might be out of luck on that one unless there is an option in the settings to disable the roaming guard...

For Handcent, you should be able to disable notifications but the problem with that is you won't get notifications for text messages either. So you might be stuck with it unless you use a messaging app that doesn't constantly run in the background.

If you don't mind the notification in the pulldown menu, you could try longpressing the notification and selecting "hide notification icon" which should at least hide the statusbar icon. You will still see the persistent notification though when you swipe the status bar down.

Thanks Brian.

Yep, can't disable system app notifications. And long-pressing this one took me to an entirely different app. Go figure.

I'll live with the Handcent notice b/c I can't disable all notifications obviously.
