Dumb question about texting

SunRiser

Newbie
So, I am brand new to Android (using 4.0.1 right now), and I am loving so far. My question is really simple. Do I use "Messenger" for texting (SMS)? I would assume so. It's not like some chat service only for Google+ users is it? I have tried texting with it and it never goes to my contact, and people have tried texting me and I don't seem to be getting them. Phone and data are working perfectly. Any ideas?

If I have to reset, does it take forever to restore everything?

Thanks!

Messenger will do SMS and MMSes. It's not G+ or any other craziness.

So try this:

Open your app drawer > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All tab > Scroll down to Messenger and tap it > Clear data

Then try again.

Also, I have to ask...seeing how you say you're on Android 4.0.1...are you rooted? Is it the Galaxy Nexus? Did you buy the phone from the carrier/store or a person?

Clearing the data did not work. Odd that SMS does not work, but everything else does. Should I reset?

I'll definitely stop by the AT&T store today, though.

So I called Tech support and it looks like they took Text off of my plan when they changed it over from my iPhone plan yesterday. At least they managed to keep my unlimited data. Thanks, jerofld. I'm sure I will have more dumb questions about Android. The iPhone depleted most of my intelligence it seems.
