Dumb question!

Hello! I saw this forum and had a really dumb question. My Sprint Htc EVO 4G phone is now saying "your account could not be validated" when I dial out and I cannot get online or use my hotspot. My boyfriend (who is now not speaking with me) bought this phone and said he paid up the account for a year. Could this mean he cut off the phone? Sprint will not tell me because he has passworded everything on his account.
