Help Duplicate Contact Entries

Newbie
When the Sprint person transferred my contacts from my old Android to the GS3, all my phone and google contacts got *linked* and since they were *almost* duplicate, I ended up with most contacts having duplicate phone numbers and emails.

Is there a way to un-link them, without having to do it one at a time? (I hope so). Or, do I have to delete them all from the phone, clean up my contacts list in google and then transfer a fresh copy from google to the phone?

Go Contacts has an option to "merge" duplicate contacts but frm what i remember, its a PIA, i just put up with all the duplicates (six in some cases lol) but they never cause me any problems, i search the contact usin google search/google now (only works outside US) or download google gesture search if youre in US (bypasses Apples lawsuit) :)

There is no way to "mass" unlink. The best thing for you to do is delete and then resync.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. I have to say that "synching" had a different connotation for me, until I started using Android phones. With older phones, if I, for example, synched my contacts with Outlook, I could chose whether I wanted to over-write, merge, and give preference to one source over the other. It doesn't appear I can do that when I sync with my google contacts :-(

Thanks again for responding.

Thanks. Sometimes multiple entries don't help, and they can be very confusing. I'll have to clean up the google contacts list, delete the one from the phone and re-sync.

Be very careful because if you delete from the phone it could delete from Google when you sync. If it were me I would have duplicate copies of all my contacts. If you have your contacts in Outlook then you could erase Google and do a 1 way sync to Google if you use Go Contact Sync Mod

Not very useful - lots of chat about "with a little digging you'll find" and "every phone is different"... :(
