Help Duplicate Mail notifications

I just bought a HTC EVO 4G (previously had LG Optimus Elite) and so far have been impressed, but for the money my expectations were high. My only issue so far is I get 2 notifications for 1 email. I assume what is happening is the gmail app is generating a notification and the mail app is also genereating a notification..I attempted to delete the Mail icon, but it always remains out there..

How do I only get 1 notification per email ?

You can unassociate your account in the Mail app by going to the mail app and press the menu button then go to accounts. If all else fails you can disable the Mail app by going into manage applications then go to the "all" tab then go to Mail then click disable and then you won't have to worry about it.

Thanks that worked. I deleted my account within the Mail app.
