Root DX rooting question

Ok so on rooting there is two ways to go about it. One is using universal androot, which does not work if you have 2.2? Also The other way is connecting the device to your PC and forcing the root file onto the device that way. is this correct?

I used this procedure last night and it worked perfectly How to: Root DROID X Running Official Android 2.2 - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog. Universal Androot wouldn't work on 2.2, for me at least.

Now this was with the newest 2.3.15 installed already?

Not that it matters anyways phone is bricked. I had done nothing except update to 2.3.15 and phone will not restart. Tried removing the battery as well and nothing.

So there is a possibility to have received a brand new bricked DX, I know this, I have one, I didn't even get to rooting it. Verizon wireless in Pasadena is the worst store ever, they were saying how they had received some and then when they asked the manager if they could use one to replace my handset, he said no. DO NOT GO TO the verizon wireless store in Pasadena, CA.

My phone came with 2.1 originally. I did the OTA update to 2.2, then rooted it.

Same here well tried to go to 2.2, but the device would not have it.
