dx tablets

Okay, I read it. Yes they seem worth the risk. Because...

Every house needs about 1 tablet per person, plus .5 desktops per person. We have 6 people. $300 per person is not in the budget. I did just buy 4 $100 a9 cortex tablets, 1 ghz single core. I do need about two more. Maybe would splurge up to $200 on a nexus 7 quad core, simply because there is room for snappier behavior, since even a stripped down linux, the os is still a pig compared with windows 95. Kingoffice is the best spreadsheet, but still slow and limited compared with a 1985 dos 123 lotus.exe.

Though I may wait until someone builds an android with a screen that can be seen outdoors. Some ar coating, with oled technology. I am still stuck with a 1993 palm top for estimating spreadsheet, since everything works quicker, more powerful, and I can see the screen outdoors. And the 45 hour battery life (with aa backups), means it always works when I grab it. Not true of any 5-6 hour runtime device.

DealExtreme might be OK, they do appear to at least have a US returns address just in case if(when) they do crap out. But all support, service and warranty is done from China. And it may well still be a bit pot-luck as to what you might actually receive, e.g. do you require Google Play and other Google services.

If it's budget devices you're after, have had a look at what Target or NewEgg, or even Best Buy have to offer? At least that way you'll have a proper US warranty and consumer protection in case there are problems. 5-6 hour battery life from one of these things? The current one I've got only manages two hours, and that's when it was new.

I tend to agree about the "Lotus 123" comparison LOL Good office productivity suites for Android can still be very much lacking, especially spreadsheet and presentation apps. And Kingsoft Office is probably the best. Any presentations I have to make or edit, I'm using my laptop (Libre Office with Linux Mint).

BTW I'm in Shenzhen and HK next week for a few days, seeing friends, get some more real hands-on of these things. Not planning on buying though, but never know. :)
