Dyson Air Multiplier?

$300.00?????
I just saw one in a local Bed Bath & Beyond and I thought it was "only" $80, but i could be wrong because their online store does say $299.
It was interesting, but it takes up as much space as a table fan, and frankly not much benefit other than as a conversation piece.
I could make a gratuitous "iFan" joke at Apple's expense but it would be too easy

Is the "buffeting" that the blades cause really that annoying that anyone would spend $300 on this? Dyson stuff is awesome from a design and engineering perspective but it ends up so over priced that no one would buy it. My wife wanted to register for their dyson ball vacuum when we got married and I took it back off the registry. No way I wanted someone spending $600 on a vacuum when we only have 1 carpeted room in our house.

those hand dryers are awesome. I mean they actually work unlike normal bathroom hand dryers. (Anytime I have to use one of those crappy hand dryers my pants end up doing the bulk of the drying)

What can I say superb Dyson British Engineering and Design
Engineering and design or marketing that realizes that most Americans have more money than brains and taking advantage of that with flashing lights and whistles with new colors and shapes?
It has a tiny fan in the base that sends air around the ring which causes a negative pressure that pulls more air in from tiny holes in the back of the ring and blows it all out the front. That's what it means by "air multiplier". The $300 price tag is too ridiculous and I don't think anyone buys it outside of the novelty factor. It is far weaker then a standard $10 fan and the buffeting IMO is a non issue. The only way this fan will become standard is if more manufacturers come out with similar fans and drive the price way down into the sub-$50 range.
Even the vacuum is is questionable if you ask me. My sister spent a fortune on the pet hair one for her two dogs. The thing burned out within a couple of years.

I like the "limited settings" pitch on the old fans, then they show this thing and it's swinging....wait for it..... left to right, just like those old nasty buffeting fans..LOL ...
it's neat, but I don't see it, not for 300, seems to be more of a status thing, than a "wind" thing..

i have the dyson ball its great and im borrowing a multiplier from a friend its good quiet and it feels nice on a hot day dont buy it unless you are willing to pay 300+ for it though. oh and i have a hand dryer a chinese food place was running out of business and havinga equipment sale (odd isnt it lol bought it for 250 dolla (as they said dolla=dollars usd)

You had me up until this statement. What your sister, and most people for that matter, don't realize that the 'pet' version comes what different attachments for doing furniture and what not. Other than the different colored plastic parts the actual vacuum is identical otherwise. Same motor, same electronics and same everything. If she read the manual on maintaining and servicing she likely wouldn't have burnt it up within two years because that's pretty rare. You can sell tanks to the public and someone will find a way to break one and blame the manufacturer. That doesn't discredit the fact that tanks are substantially more durable for that price tag increase.
I work at a retailer that has one of these things on display. I've played with it, and it really does work just like they advertise, the way it works is not a gimmick. Is it worth 300$? Not at all. If I was really in need of a fan, I would spend probably 30$ or 40$ on it, at most.
Oh I know its identical. I wasn't saying pet vacuum because its supposed to be superior to the original one, just said it because thats the model she had. Even if she didn't keep up with proper maintenance I'm still not convinced its worth $600. To each his own though.

I'm not doubting your sister had an issue with an item made by man. I had a $3,000 Schmidt & Bender optic fail on me at a competition last month through no abuse on my part. Does that mean they are all crap and everyone interested in an optic should avoid them? No. It means that no matter how nice something is or how much quality control is involved or how reliable they are for their particular industry.... anything made by man will fail at some point. Just the nature of the game. When something does it doesn't mean that everything the manufacturer creates is trash though.
Love the design, hate the price. Had a very quick look at one on display and wasn't blown away with in practice like I was by the hand dryer first time I used it, but does the job it's designed to.
Read am article recently where Dyson was pondering the idea of doing away work wipers on cars in favor of some sought of air flow system to keep rain off the windshield, rather than wipe it off once landed, and that strikes me as intriguing. I do like his designs generally.
