E-Bikes

I started out the day cleaning my gutters. They were in desperate need. I then tried to adjust my brake ticking problem. I got it adjusted as good as possible. I'm afraid that my wheel build is not that great. Rotating the rear wheel clearly shows that it isn't perfectly round and has a bit of left / right wobble. Neither are terrible but I was expecting better. I'll take my calipers to the nipples and see what size wrench I need and order it. It's a cheap tool that I should own. I'll find a day to play with that wheel and I will improve it. It's not rocket science but will take a few hours for a novice to fine tune it.

I suited up and went riding once my chores were done. As I cut through the upscale neighborhood on my way to the sidewalk South, I found a billfold in the street. It was laying beside a parked car like it had fallen as the driver exited the vehicle. It's a busy street and not everyone is as honest as this old man so I picked it up and went to the nearest house. I rang the bell and knocked on the door but nobody was home. I rode my first loop and stopped again at the house with the same negative results. A third attempt later was the same. I was running out of battery and was pretty much frozen so I called it after three loops. I came home, inspected the contents of the billfold to confirm I was at the right house, wrote a note about finding it if I found nobody home again, and drove back to the house. Luckily, the kids younger sister was home from school. She was very grateful for the return of the billfold and I was very glad to see it returned. I logged 31 miles and froze my butt off today. It felt great to ride.

It warmed into the mid fifties but didn't feel all that warm. There was a wicked wind from the South that and it was overcast, making it seem colder than it was. I mowed my lawns early so I could ride. It was the last mowing obligations I have for this year so I put my blower and string trimmer up and took the trailer off of the truck. I have a cover for the smaller mower but I tarp up the big mower. I'll give it another week or so before I officially close shop. I might mulch my yard one more time.

Though I was anxious to ride, like I said, it was cold. I gave it some extra time to warm up or get less windy... hopefully both. I gave up and went riding. It wasn't terrible riding but I had hoped for it to be better. Gotta take what you get this time of year. I didn't see any one riding and only one jogger today. I logged 35 miles.

It barely got into the fifties today. The sky was overcast and there was a gusting wind from the North. It was cold and I talked myself out of riding. I sat here bored and then succumbed to the desire to ride. I didn't ride that much but at least I got out. I rode two loops South which is 21 miles. I didn't see anyone while I was riding.

I ordered a set of spoke wrenches last night. I'm pretty certain the wrench I need is the SW-3 size which is 3.96mm. I struggled to find that wrench online that wasn't part of a set. I don't need the other sizes but the set is cheap. I'm anxious to see if I can improve the wheel

I watched some videos last night on how to tune up my wheel. The wobble (left right sway) is addressed in a few videos. It seems pretty much straight forward and a little adjustment at a time for a novice seems great advice. The hop (out of round) is touched in the videos but not repaired. I have a little wobble but a lot of hop in my wheel. I'll do more research before I address the hop. The wobble has to be effecting my mileage with the ticking of my brake. Friction is a drag. :) I will remove the wobble and then address the hop.

It is supposed to warm into the upper fifties this afternoon. Naturally that will come with a wind but it is to be out of the South today. I'm looking forward to some warmer riding weather windy or not. It might be nice enough today to tease some other riders outside.

I rode and then I rode again. It was nice today and might be the last nice day we have for a while. The upper fifties turned into sixty four degrees before it started cooling off. It was pretty windy from the South or it would have been a beautiful day. I logged a max gust of 37mph today. Though it was blowing, for the most part, it didn't seen terrible. From the South is the best direction for the wind to blow from with the loop I ride. I did see some other riders today. I saw three or four riders in town and four other cyclists on the sidewalk South. One was the older lady on her trike. It was fun seeing other people enjoying the sunshine.

The joggers and dog walkers were out today as well. The doggie park was packed and I saw three or four dogs and masters in a park I pass. I see one blond lab that walks his human quite often. They will be on the sidewalk that runs in front of the park. The dog has one of those retractable leash things in his mouth every day. The man follows the dog. They aren't tethered to one another. The dog crossed the entrance road and then turned and started down the sidewalk into the addition. The man followed the dog on the trek they likely have traversed hundreds of times.

I rode up two batteries today. I actually had a case of the sore butt when I put the bike up. It was a little cool when I started but it warmed up nicely as I was riding. It was almost hot when I called it a day. I logged 69 miles today. I'm glad I had the day free to ride. Tomorrow the high is to be nearly twenty degrees cooler. Saturday is to be even colder and Sunday's high is to be twenty nine degrees.
