Help E-mail issue-groups

I have groups in my g-mail account. I see them in my contacts, but I cant send to them. When I compose the message and go to the To: normally I just type the address and the list shows a list of possible addresses from my contacts. I type the group name and nothing happens.

also is there a way to send straigh from my contacts?
