Help E-Mail problems after Orange 2.2.1 Update !!!

Hello All!!

This is my first post on this forum - so any help will be appreciated !!

I have a UK Orange Galaxy S (contract) which originally came with 2.1

I updated to recently 2.2 Froyo OK (...well after having to hard reset the phone !

Then along came 2.2.1 (which also required a hard reset).....
... but i am now having problems sending and receiving emails - it simply will not send any emails until after a soft reset or by being turned off and on again.

I have 3 accounts (using Orange Push E-Mail and they are also duplicated in the Pop/Imap App) - all accounts have the same problem.

Any ideas anyone ?

It all worked before the update !

Does Orange have a signal problem or is it a phone issue ?

I have rest the phone a few times but to no avail - i have read somewhere that if the phone memory is too full emails will not send but mine seems ok.

Cheers

I can't really help apart from saying that my Orange SGS is much better now it has 2.2.1. A lot of things didn't work properly in the earlier versions, especially 2.2. Email would hardly ever work and it does now. I just wish I could get rid of the Orange apps & branding and I would be 100% happy.

Thanks for yor comments Wobble !!

However i contacted Orange on Friday and agreed that there was a problem with my phone sending and receiving emails after 2.2.1 after they checked the data on their system

They think that the installation was corrupted so some reason

They sent me a replacement handset next day with 2.2 on it !!

So now is all good - if a little slower !!

I am still interested in running 2.2.1 but i am now wary of doing so - have you any advice ?

Is it best to install with no external SD card and no SIM card fitted ??

lol I want like the opposite to happen on my 2.2.1 orange SGS. I want the email to stop, to just bugger off and leave me alone to be happy and in peace!! It seems whenever i enable 3G gmail and mail just open up in the background draining my battery as much as they possibly can, even after shutting them off, with no sync, they just come back. I cant remove them without rooting the phone but im not up for that. Annoyed to say the least

The replacement phone works fine !!

It was Orange's idea to swap the phone out, not mine !!

Something had gone wrong with the update and stopped the emails working there is no doubt and their solution was to send another phone instead of returning my old one to get the OS reinstalled !

r.e battery life

I noticed when i had 2.2.1 the battery life was substantially reduced (probably by 30 - 40%)

I thought this was because the phone could not send or recieve e-mails due to the glich, but i have read elsewhere that it is due to the 2.2.1 in general.

As one of my 'elderly' work colleagues often says 'you can't get nothing out without putting something in first'.

Better phone performance requires more energy i.e the phone will need more power and thus it runs down the battry quicker !!!!

Maybe i will stick with 2.2 !!

If the rumours are true and 2.3 is on its way i can only imagine what the battery life will be - you will probably have to recharge it twice a day if you are lucky !!

Cheers
