Help E-Mail setup

JMBUFFI

Newbie
I have my e-mail set up on the droid turbo to delete messages on the server when I delete them but this does not work. It is a att.net account using server inbound.att.net, port 995, security SSL/TLS. I have option delete email from server when I delete from Inbox. I receive new emails ok, but if I delete one from another source like outlook or logging into my email the deleted emails still show on my phone. I did not have this issue on a LG G2 I was using previously.

You didn't say if this is IMAP or POP3 service, but from the server settings it must be POP3.

You said that if you delete mail on the Droid it does not delete them on the server as it's setup to do. If you check mail later from somewhere else it's still on the server and downloaded, correct?

But you also say that when in Outlook or webmail and you delete mails it does not delete on the server, so that if you check mail on the phone later it's still on the server and downloaded, correct?

From what you said, (and read what you wrote again carefully because it doesn't exactly make sense) apparently mail is not being deleted on the server from the Droid, Outlook or webmail. So...

1. Apparently the Droid is not deleting mail on the server as set to do.

2. Apparently Outlook is not set to delete mail or is failing to do so.

3. Webmail is not deleting mail, because like Outlook it is either not set to or failing to.

Now, #1 is no surprise. Your email app may not be communicating with the server properly. POP3 email service can be a little iffy that way. You need to check settings for #2+3. But since mail is not being deleted on the server no matter where you delete it from it could be an att.net problem.

I'm pretty sure that deletion issue is a known issue with the Droid Turbo (crappy) email app. I'd suggest using a good third party mail app from the Play Store. K9 mail is great, though many do not like the way it looks. A lot of people suggest AquaMail. It may be that the lollipop update will bring a better email client from Motorola - here's hoping.

The stock mail app really is a piece of junk. You can't batch delete messages as another example of a shortcoming. I know lots of people hate installing third party apps, but, it is a smartphone, and it seems silly to compromise with a bad built-in app if you don't have to.

The Gmail app with the latest updates also supports setting up POP3 and IMAP accounts - it's not just for Gmail anymore. It may be worth a try as well if you are loathe to install a third party app.

Yes it is POP3. When I delete email from using my AT&T logon or Outlook they delete from the server fine. The only issue is if I delete from the Droid turbo or even view e-mails. When I logon the check email from my home computer, it is like I have not checked e-mail all day. So the communication issue with the att server exists only with the phone.

Ahh...OK that sounds more like it. I thought you didn't quite get the problem described correctly.

Since the failed deletions actually only happens when using the phone, then doogald's suggestion to try another email client is a good one. The stock email app you're using is probably not communicating deletion instructions to the att.net server in a lingo it understands.

AquaMail is a terrific email client, my absolute favorite. But it's such a completely customizable app with options for just about anything that it can be more than some users want to deal with. If you're not afraid of a bit of a learning curve and would like advanced configuration options it's hard to go wrong with AquaMail and you might want to try it.

For something a little simpler and free a lot of people like K9 or the standard Gmail app. Both are an easy search away in the Play store.

Yeah, I didn't know you had IMAP for an option, but it's almost always preferable over POP3. Glad you got it sorted out.
