E-mails with images/html, attachments take FOREVER to load

CareyL

Lurker
All of a sudden a few weeks ago, any e-mail message that is html/images instead of plain text is taking an average of three full minutes to load (sometimes longer). Same problem with any attachments. I have to click the "Load More" button and watch that stupid circle spinning endlessly. I'm getting really annoyed, I don't have the time or patience to sit here and wait for each one to load!

I still have 5.1.1. The problem occurs whether I'm using 4G or wifi. I have UDP so data usage shouldn't be a problem. Everything else seems to be fine.

Anyone have any suggestions to help save my sanity?

Hi Carey,

I would try to delete the cache of the mail application and see if that helps. If it does not then I would next try to delete the email account and add it again. Since it happened suddenly it must be some form of corruption somewhere (especially since you have already ruled out network problems).

Hope this helps...

Regards,
Eric.

Thanks Eric,

Clearing the cache was no help (once I finally found where that was hidden for the standard e-mail app). Also tried clearing all cached data from internal storage with no luck.

I have three e-mail addresses forwarded to this phone, so guess I'm going to have to pay more attention and figure out if it's happening with only one of the accounts or all three of them, or find time to look up the pop settings for all of them so I can delete and reinstall each one.

...or wait until Verizon decides to give me Marshmallow and hope that it fixes the problem without causing even more problems :p

Actually, my Note 4 received MM about 3 weeks ago almost.
so far, it has been painfully free of defects....
most of the defects have been between my ears, getting used to the nuances of MM.

Well it looks like my phone was finally scheduled for the update yesterday, but it failed with a 405 Error Code. Checking the Verizon support forum, it looks like quite a few of us with that problem since July 2, so I think I'll wait and see what's going on before trying with the upgrade assistant.

I found a minor bug today, if I answered a call from a locked screen, there was no audio path in either direction until I toggled Speaker on.

I tracked it down to a miscreant macro I had written to make sure that the volume was always at "maximum" back before my ears were operated on.... If I had my BT headset on, the problem never occurred.

Today, working with a friend, I just decided to disable the macro app completely and the phone worked as it should, we had two-way audio instantly. So that led to turning all the macros and enabling them one at a time, didn't take long, the bad one showed up right away.

So, when a phone misbehaves, it can generally be tracked down to something we, the owner did.
Had nothing to do with 6.0/MM but both occurred at about the same time....
