Help e-Reader with text to speech?

Has anyone used and e-reader with text to speech on the Esteem?

I don't own any e-books yet and I know there are different formats from different e-tailers, when you read some of the older posts on the subject you find out people have problems finding compatible readers for their existing e-books.

So I want to get of to a good start knowing what e-reader is good at speech and which e-book formats.

I saw a lot of recommendation on e-readers and not a lot on those that do speech.

I do not have an Esteem, so in that regard my answer may not be relevant. I have an HTC Thunderbolt.

I have found that the eReader called FBReader will do text to speech if you also install FBReader TTS+ Plugin. With this combination I was able to access free or paid books, and have listened to several books during my commute. For an improvement over the default Pico TTS voice I installed INOVA Text to Speech and selected and downloaded the Kendra US English voice.

However, I was not able to figure out how to open the adobe ePub format books from my library using FBReader. These are files with the extension .acsm.

I have been using the Aldiko book reader to read the books from my library, and I do like the Aldiko reader very much. However, it does not do TTS. So I installed the premium version, because I read somewhere that the premium version would do TTS. But I have not been able to find the speech option in the menus of the Aldiko Premium version, so maybe the info I read was mistaken.

I am still looking for an option to read aloud the .acsm books from my library.

I tried Tap2Speak Reader, the TTS worked well. It also allows you to use google online TTS engine, saved you much trouble to find a TTS engine in your language.
