Help E with checkmark on status bar and no data

What does the E symbol with a checkmark under it mean, and how do I get rid of it to fix my data connection? It is not in the manual.

I got my HTC Inspire last week and I have been having trouble with my phone losing its data connection in the evenings, even when connected to my Wifi. HTC suggested I do a factory data reset which I did today. My phone was working fine after the reset but my data connection is gone again. This time it is showing that E symbol with a checkmark under it, which did not display before.

Another post about the E checkmark symbol said that this meant data was offline, which is consistent with me not having any data access. But it also says I am connected to Wifi with full bars. Why is the E symbol there? I live in a very urban area so my AT&T network should be fine, and my Wifi signal is strong on my laptop.

E with a check mark means the edge network is available but not being used, H with a check mark means the hspa (or whatever its called) network is available but now being used.

When my phone is connected to wifi i usually get an H with the check mark next to the wifi signal icon in the status bar.

If you have wifi off and are only getting the check mark then that means no data connection. Up and down arrows under the E or H mean you have a connection. Do you have mobile data turned on? Menu-settings-wireless & networks-mobile network (check the box next to this)
Maybe the apn settings are messed up. You can try doing a reset on just those. Menu-settings-wireless & networks-mobile networks-access point names-menu-reset default. If this doesnt work you can try to manually add the att apn. There is a thread about how to add it and what the settings are ill try to find it.

This link has the apn settings and how to add it.

Thanks, 2manyPHONES. I appreciate your response. Both Wifi and Mobile Data are turned on. I have reset my APN settings and will manually add the APN for AT&T. But wouldn't this just address an issue I was having with accessing data on AT&T's network? What is most odd about the problem that I have been having is that I am losing my data connection for several hours when I'm connected to my home Wifi network, even when it continues to say I have a strong connection to Wifi and when internet is working fine on my computers.

Even though it says my phone is not successfully getting data from Wifi, it does not use AT&T's network, probably because it thinks it is connected to Wifi. I suppose I should try disconnecting Wifi to see if my AT&T data will work then, but I have not tried that yet. Maybe it is a problem with the antenna? It resolves itself when I restart the phone, but I'm having to restart it a few times a day.

Yeah sometimes if you have mobile data and WiFi turned on it can bounce back and forth. I had a problem with my wifi connecting but turned out to be my router. I was able to connect only one of my laptops nothing else would connect so I got a new one and no problems since.

Try to turn WiFi off and see if mobile data works, then try turning off mobile data and WiFi on to see if WiFi then works.

I only had the opportunity to do this one time because it has only died once. When internet died, I turned off WiFi. Then my data worked through the ATT network. So it seems to be a a WiFi issue. When I turned WiFi on again then it synced fine. So restarting my phone or turning WiFi off and on again fixes it. What could be going on? It displays full WiFi bars when it stops working.
