Early Upgrade? is that an option

aliciaa75

Newbie
I currently have the Evo 4g and I do like my phone, but now I am considering into getting a new phone. I am putting it on hold thought because I heard that Sprint will be getting newer phones soon. Is that true?
I really would love to get the Samsung Galaxy Note, even though its somewhat large in size, but I wouldn't mind that at all. It looks like a wonderful phone.
My question is could I do an early upgrade even though my upgrade isn't until July of 2013. My friend just got the iphone and she did an early upgrade and hers wasn't until October.

Any opinions or suggestions?
thanks!

It depends on how much time is left on your contract. I read something that Sprint was letting people buy out the remainder of their contract to renew, but I wasn't sure if that went active yet. In any event, I've only upgraded as early as 3 months before contract expiration. Otherwise, I buy a new phone annually at full retail.

The only way to know for sure is to call up Sprint and talk to a rep. If you don't get the answer you want, ask for a supervisor. Just remember to be nice, it goes a long way to getting help.

Sprint is doing an early upgrade for some.. I don't know the details, but I attached the link below. You can buy out your contract for a discounted price, then get the new customer price on your phone. As stated above by NYCHitman, You'll have to call and ask about this deal. You might want to hold out a month or two though, as Sprint will be coming out with new phones soon.. these phones will be able to better take advantage of the network upgrades Sprint is doing (Network Vision, 4G LTE). Tough Choice to make there, no doubt.. Good Luck!

Sprint to Offer Early Upgrade Buyout Program Sprintfeed

PS. What town in Michigan you from?

Thanks you guys. I appreicate it!
I'll defintely look into it. My Evo has been acting up for the past several months and I'm just looking into buying another phone too. I planned to wait a couple months since I heard Sprint was coming out with new phones soon. I know of a Galaxy SIII coming out (what I heard) also, what other phones are coming out to Sprint?
Also, I live in Monroe Michigan..its south of downriver and near toledo.

1. a new phone is ALWAYS...coming out soon! so it is a never ending cycle of ..chasing your tail!

2. the Note is a galaxy s2 spec phone.. like the Epic Touch. so if the size is an issue. .then you can get the Epic Touch.. NOW! :)

3. yeah.. you can do an early upgrade as others have pointed out. not a bad option.

the solution that i have for me... my plan..
i have the evo 4g (rooted and running great on MikG 3.1).. and love it. sitting on an upgrade now.
i want to wait for a bigger screen.. 5 inches and up. (NOT a sexual pun!)

so that i would have my EVO and a NOTE type product. I can swap out as I need...

Well I figured that new phones are coming out all the time ahah
The size isn't an issue, I actually like bigger screen phones. When I saw the note I was in awe, I wanted it so bad! ahah my boyfriend made fun of me because he thinks it looks huge. But I don't mind the size at all.
Hmm..see I am nervous to root a phone, it just looks complicated and I'm afraid I may have issues with it ahah.
But I'm not sure what to do just yet. I'm going to wait a couple months and see what other phones come out. I was going to just get a Evo 3d or the Iphone..but i'm not really feeling the iphone or switching to the 3d.
I like the Samsung Galaxy sII and I was thinking of getting that one. Isn't a sIII coming out soon though? I think I read something about it before.

yes.. the GS3 is coming out.. so is the GS4 and GS5 .. or whatever they will call it.. sometime in the future...

the GS3 has not even been announced yet.. but rumors are running fast. every year Sammy will drop the newest big-bad phone in the summer time. so rumors have started about it.

of course once the GS3 drop.. rumors will start on the GS4...

rinse and repeat!
again.. back to chasing that damn tail.

if you can wait till summer-ish.. then you might be in the country and on the carrier that might get the GS3 first.

the thing for me... I live in Dallas area.. and they are getting the sprint LTE 4G here this summer-ish.. i will wait for that.. and see what phone will have that.. with the big screen.

Oh Okay, I see. hmm..
Well I live in monroe (somewhat near toledo Ohio && 30 minutes away from Detroit), and I highly doubt monroe area will be getting 4g anytime soon. I think the only place that has 4g in Michigan is kalamazoo.. (I think)
But I'm not sure whats going on with the 4g here. I'll have to look up and see if anything will be happening here anytime soon.

you most likely be waiting for 2013 or later to see 4G...

well.. once you do get the new whatever phone... then you can try rooting the old evo. it is fun.. and makes it new again. then you can swap between the new BIG boy.. and the old evo.

Yea I figured I'll be waiting for a while to get the 4g here. :/
I would love to see 4g here quicker! oh well...
aha well I will try it once I do get a new phone so I won't mess up anything on it! aha
thank you! :)

If your phone is acting up,just back-up all of your pertinent information (contacts to GOOGLE,apps w/APP BRAIN & APP DRAGON,bookmarks to SD,pix to PICASA) & go into your SETTINGS > PRIVACY & allow GOOGLE to back-up your information+check the box that allows for these settings to be restored.

Then, do a factory reset & proceed to re-install everything. I guarantee your phone will run a lot smoother.

This may also help curb the urge to get a new phone & save some $ also, especially if otherwise you are satisfied w/your EVO.

I already tried the reset thing though too. Its just little glitches and frequent reboots here and there. But there are weird things that happen to my phone too! When it reboots or shuts off (if it dies) it will resend messages to people from days, sometimes weeks ago, that day. Also it will act up when i'm in the middle of typing a text or hitting the home, menu, search and back button. I have the vibrate feedback on (so when I hit the buttons or type a text it will vibrate lightly) and it will just stop doing that. I'm not sure what that would be. Also, my boyfriend said its missing the other sticker on the battery too.
I'm not sure what to do. I do plan to take it in to sprint and have them look at it and see what they can do about it. so..idk I do like my evo, but I also don't like it at the same time.
I want a new phone..but I'm not really sure what to do right now.

Sounds like you're in the same spot I was when I switched from the HUAWEI ASCEND w/CRICKET to my current phone, the MOTOROLA PHOTON.

If you have 4G WIMAX coverage in your area,I'd look around for a used PHOTON,EPIC 4G TOUCH, or the EVO 3D.You really can't go wrong with any of these.

There's no telling when 4G LTE will roll out in your area, unless you're one of the few that have an announced rollout date.

Otherwise, I'd jump in with one of the above mentioned phones, you'll be amazed w/the improved experience & find it hard to put your phone down. Some cool toys we have here w/these ANDROIDS.

Before I bought my Evo I was set on buying the 3D but the lady talked me out of it and so I just gave in and went with the EVO...kindof wish I stuck with my gut. I saved some money which is the good thing though aha
I have looked into one of these phones. The Epic touch looks interesting. I may go with that because I like how it looks and the specs seem nice too. My friend has it and its pretty fast! I like it.

I think I may go with the Epic Touch. But I'm going to wait a few months to see if anything else comes out and such. Thanks everyone! :)
I'm hoping they will let me do an early upgrade since its so far awayyy :0

If you're going to wait a few months like me, anticipate Sprint will start rolling out their LTE phones. Galaxy Nexus in April, maybe another EVO in June. The one I'm waiting for is the Galaxy S III. Hopefully that phone is due out in the summer.

Yes that is a good idea! I thought about it today while at work and I figured I am going to wait a couple months before anything happens. I am waiting to see what other cool phones are coming out before I decide on anything. I am pretty excited about the galaxy sIII, I would buy that one for sure. I read on a website (i forgot which one) but it should be coming out sometime in the summer time. I haven't seen the Nexus, but I have seen other people excited for it to come out and talking about it just as much as the Galaxy Note. (which I would love for that to come to Sprint,I'm not sure if that will happen though *fingers crossed!*)
