Root Eclipse vs Broken Out?

sosaudio1

Android Enthusiast
I have seen posts of people using the Eclipse ROM on our phones. Which is better...or maybe a better question would be, if you had to list strengths and weaknesses of each, what would you say? I would love to hear from people that have it installed as well as dev's that have installed them, pulled them apart, put them back together again.....so on.

Thanks
Rich

BrokenOut gets better antutu scores, but they're both versions of stock, so not much other than tweaks and kernels are different. That's said, I've used both and I'm using BrokenOut 3.

I like eclipse more because I mostly I like the user interface more. The theming in eclipse is very nice, though it's not finished. I also don't get reboots with eclipse.

Antutu in eclipse with the blitz kernel is about the same as you get with broken out. I get around 7400 with both.

As far as strengths and weaknesses go. I don't think I'm really qualified to know exactly. But based on my use of both, and I have run both a lot, I find eclipse to be slightly more stable, and it looks better in my opinion. It also has a better power menu, with more options. And it comes with a sweet black theme for swype :P

I'm not hating on broken out though, mt did a great job, I've just had more success with eclipse.

Cool! Good responses.

Yeah, bottom line, not to bash anyone. I just wanted to get an open discussion on the topic to see what everyone thought and why they thought it.

I may have to try out eclipse. I am all about eye candy and having an attractive phone. But not at the cost of performance or battery.

I have stated before on other posts that I like the look of MIUI so I was kinda spoiled by it.

Keep the comments coming.

Im curious about eclipse myself, never used it before. I have been holding off for a full build though. With the ICS leak it sounds like it may be a while longer. I am perfectly happy with Broken Out, MT had done a fantastic job so far. Every works great nice and smooth, no reboots, i like the the latest theme. I do not like the xperia though, i went back to adw. Battery life is great, even with out further undervolting.

You should try it out. It performs great and the battery life is good as well.

for the most part it is complete. There isn't anything missing, nitro just didn't finish theming everything. Like the 4g and 3g and gps icons are still stock. The calender is still stock and things like that. But it's not not complete in the sense it has bugs and looks half done.

gotcha, that would just bug me a little. Kind of like the center clock, ya know?? lmao

B.O 3.0 has better battery. Before 3.0 eclipse was the rom to beat, but on 3.0 battery life has extended . But I think v6 doesn't hold 4g , or play YouTube very well .

Thats great! So 2.3.6 is losing 4G connection?

I tried Eclipse and it is cool. I use the backup function from verizon a lot and eclipse would FC on the restore backup account each and every time so that is a big negative. Interface is awesome and I loved the boot screen. I also installed No Frills CPU to get a chance to look at how fast it was running and set to OC. The hightest NFCPU could get was 1512. I was spoiled by BO 3.0 and the 1846 OC so I went back to BO.

Again this is simply a post for new people like me to wrap their heads around what is going on and to get honest feedback from the community as to why they like which rom better than another.

Thanks
Rich

Keep Em coming

You can run Popcorn Kernel with Eclipse or There are people running Blitzkrieg with it also. Although to run blitz you have to do some file swapping before you flash it.

Hmmmmm I knew about that....Nitro made it a point on the site tho to say stick with the kernel in the rom so I did for testing. I have not yet thrown it out and will be keeping an eye on its progress fo sho! I like the comment made by someone in that thread or another where the poster said they had been with Nitro's roms for a while and that they were good and solid.

Too bad we can't pull apart the ICS tot file and extract all the code into a ROM build that is flashable. Just rebuild a ROM. I know about a handful of people just looked at that statement and rolled their eyes.

LOL

i'm running blitz with eclipse. I also ran popcorn. Both work flawless.

I don't use the backup assistant so I don't know about that one.

As far as getting blitz onto eclipse it's very simple. Just open the zip of broken out and drag and drop the BOOT.img to the eclipse zip, and thats it!

I think you're right, but I attributed that to the kernel and governors with blitz over stock. I can definitely tell a difference in battery savings in downtime between the two.

OK so with that in mind do you think that Eclipse is better than BO? I ask this with in reason....really....heads up between the two, that is a hard question to ask.....but if you had to choose which would you do?

Just try both and see which you like better, really seems to come down to personal preference

I'm guilty of not even trying eclipse... Three original post said it was a "pre release" and it would be updated soon. I'm also guilty of not checking back...

If you want to make me even more guilty, I never tried popcorn either!

I've also never used antutu... On any device.

I use 4G exclusively, except for a half mile of road on my way home where there is a network "shadow" forcing 3g on me. I've never had any issues with 4g on any version of broken out, I also never use wifi (got the double data package for 10GB)

I have had more random reboots since moving to BO 3.0, although before that they were "random power offs", when they happened. So I'd call it an improvement, since my phone is still on when it is over.

I'm back to bo, but only because I like the Blitzkrieg kernel and it doesn't work as well(for me) with eclipse. They're very similar in experience, but I found bo tested better... But Imo, experience is more important than some variable test. So try them both and see which feels better is what I say.

why do you say blitz runs better on BO? I've run blitz on eclipse for a week and didn't really notice a difference. Matter of fact me and admn ran test the other day while he was on blitz with BO 3 and I was on blitz with eclipse. And we were both in the 7400's with admn about 20 points higher than me.
