Help Edge Bubble notifications

Hello! Its been a good 8 years of iphones so to switch back to android i'm basically starting from scratch. Please forgive my noobness.

I really like the edge notification 'bubble' that pops when I get a message...but it only seems to work with FB messenger(not my default sms, built in messages is) I do not get any other notifications, things like hangouts, contacts, messages, are all listed in the edge apps. I've been digging through settings all morning and decided i need some help.

You mean the little chat head that you can click and see your conversation with someone on Facebook? Yeah. That's not a standard Android feature, just something Facebook made up and put on their app. Probably patented since it's been available for years but no one else makes it.
