Editing FW update image file

Hello!!!

I need to replace a few files from a Firmware update image. I tried two ways ways:

1- editing straight in WinRAR
2- Unzipping, editing and compressing again

In both cases the IMG file looked right. test for problems runs fine, no issues, but when I try to update the device it won't pass on package check and the operation is aborted. I tried to save in both ZIP and IMG extensions, doesn't work in either one.

IMHO it must be related to checksum error. How can it be fixed?

The device is a Geniatech Media Center ARTV1220 running Android 4.2.2

Any clues?

Thanks for any help.

Welcome to our AndroidForums, lealpa :wavey:.

Unfortunately, you are probably spot-on that the issue is with a checksum.

I'm assuming / guessing that you're trying to use a stock mechanism to install your file and they most often require that the file use (be signed) with the manufacturers signing keys which are not available to the masses (i.e., us :p).

If you had a custom recovery installed, that would typically allow one to flash / install a file without doing the signature checks.

I'm not familiar with your device so I can really talk in any more specifics, but I hope that helps :).
