I wanted to replace the Internet Icon with the xScope icon - a that's my browser of choice. I deleted the default icon - and found this - but was unable to add the xScope icon,

Customize Layout: Launch Bar
With the ICS software update, customization options are very robust.
The launch bar is a fixed group of apps that are always available, despite which home screen is available. ICS now allows the user to customize that launch bar.
To change icons:
Tap Applications.
Tap Menu.
Tap View Type.
Select Customizable Grid (Customizable type is required to change launch bar).
Tap Menu.
Tap Edit.
Tap and hold to move icons as needed.
Note: To add icons to launch bar, existing icons must be removed. Galaxy S II only supports 4 icons.
To save:
Tap Menu.
Tap Save.
To alphabetize apps:
Tap Menu.
Tap View Type.
Tap Alphabetical Grid.

Even though they are similar, it is always best to use info for your current device. This is a lot easier with the S3, and does not require the customized layout.

From your homescreen, drag off the browser ( you said you did that already though ) then press and hold in the main area and add the app shortcut for xscope if it isn't already on your main screen somewhere. Now drag the shortcut down into the gap you made previously.

I did this with my apps set to alphabetize, not customizable. I confirmed doing this with xScope Browser specifically.

Basically, just think of the launch bar as another Homescreen at this point:)

Note that the lockscreen launch bar is separate.

Wow - that was super easy - thanks so much!

lol. I took a glance at the instructions in your first post and thought, "whoah, I don't remember doing all that!" and my eyes glazed over.

Touchwiz is actually quite intuitive in terms of setting up icons. It's just the menu structure which is an illogical labyrinth.
