Ee19 update, can i backup before update without root?

Ok I'm not rooted on my Mesmerize. I've thought about it a few times(especially when I had the acclaim) but I find this phone much more capable with the additional internal memory, so see little benefit in the way I use my phone.

So I'd like to apply the latest update from US Cell but would like to backup everything first just in case it decides to purge my phone of everything I have on it.

I'm not opposed to a quick root/unroot if it's a simple task, installing a backup software than unrooting if that's they way I have to do it(and as long as someone can guide me through the 10 easy steps of rooting your phone for backup).

So what can anyone tell me?

1. Root with super one click.

2. Install titanium backup.

3. Backup all desired apps/data.

4. Have update applied at USCC store.

5. Root newly wiped phone with super one click.

6. Install titanium backup again.

7. Restore apps and data.

Those are the steps i followed. Twice. Both times without a hitch.

thanks for the tips. I guess the one question I have is number 4 really necessary? I can't do my own update if I root?

#4 is definitely optional, but probably recommended if you have the time.

You can always download the update, install it yourself, and see how it goes. If you start having more problems than usual, you may want to take it in for the store update at that point.

I had mine and my husbands done at the store, it took like an hour per phone, I didn't lose anything even my screen saver was still there. I did my sons here at home and it took like 10 mins tops, he also lost nothing. Everything was still there apps and all. Just thought I'd share that with ya.

I updated my phone using Kies and nothing was cleared. It took two tries (failed the first time for some reason) but was much simpler than expected.

just saw that some people claimed they lost everything. Myself, i updated my acclaim with no issues.

Just hate going back to step one if I don't have to.

well downloaded the kies and did the update. This one was simple, basically did the work all itself with little input from me. Froyo update was a little more difficult.

Didn't lose anything, life is all good.

Glad it worked out for you. Let us know how the mini kies update performs over time. The EC10 mini kies update was a complete dumpster fire.

So far so good. I didn't experience a lot of the issues many were complaining about but I'm assuming there are other tweaks that are beneficial to how the system runs.

If I wasn't a such a chicken sh*t I'd root and install a 2.3 rom.

I used ODIN to do my update the longest part was the downloading the software and unzipping(4 mins) so have had no problems out of it
