Effect of the Microsoft/Nokia merger?

Understand. I was coming from the place of those what-do-they-call-em demo units that the stores sometimes get that don't even have working innards, and have a sticker on the face to show how the screen would look. To me, neither those nor concept art prove anything (ok, I guess the store bricks mean you can order them).

I've always called them placeholder phones, but I get your point.

How will it affect the industry and consumers? It will put another choice out there for ppl to choose from for hardware. Choice is good. I feel Android woulda been a safer bet for Nokia. Probably cheaper for them too. If they didnt wanna spend time developing a UI for Android just use stock.

I still dont understand them saying they couldnt differentiate with Android, but they feel they can with WP7. I read MS may have given them the go ahead to alter the UI. If MS lets them tweak WP7 UI is that gonna sit well with Samsung, HTC, LG?

Maybe other manufactures will start putting better cameras in their phones now...

Oh, I don't disagree that they are both seriously late to the party!.. I just wonder if using Nokia's large global market share will help revive Microsoft if they start to innovate again? Just surprising that Nokia is putting all of its eggs in the Microsoft basket. There has to be something there, right?..
Yes. That something is called desperation.

It's possible.

However, since they are a year out from getting anything to market, I'm not sure how much it's going to help Microsoft.

On top of that, Microsoft is giving Nokia freedom that it's other manufacturers won't have, and that will put the other handset manufacturers at a disadvantage. If other manufacturers start to back off of Windows 7 because they see it as a long term loss, then Windows 7 will basically do nothing until next year when Nokia releases it's first models.

If that happens, the Microsoft is losing much more than they are gaining.

Trying to re-re-relaunch your phone OS in the midst of "JellyRoll" And "Kutsinta" (or maybe Klondike), and iOS 6 doesn't sound all that appealing to me.

Microsoft wants to be in this market, but I don't expect them to be in this market all that long.
