Help EL29 Update

Has anyone received Sprint/Samsung EL29 update yet for the 4G Epic Touch? I know it was released a few days ago and they do it over a 10 day period but I have never waited this long before for an update. I manually try to force it by checking for firmware and Android updates but to no avail. Also, does anyone know how this update will change the phone? Thanks...

  • Security update
  • Dismissing multiple calendar alerts
  • Commercial Alert System (CMAS) activated
are the things publicly available.

i noticed just today that the answer call screen looks different; prelude to ICS perhaps? dunno

The wallpaper no longer scrolls. That sucks because now i have wallpaper that is clipped off on both sides and can't scroll to see the whole wallpaper. I haven't noticed much else though.

I just noticed the wallpaper thing as well... Slightly disappointing

I also seem to have lost some live wallpapers , including the Nexus one with the colored pixels that race across the screen.

Does the CIQ removal increase battery life again? I have noticed a drop in battery life recently was great at first.

YouTube improved a lot after the update. One huge plus is it keeps the video wherever you left it when you exit and reenter. Also, it's smoother overall in the interface.

Does anyone else have something strange going on with the market? Mine shows some programs installed and some that aren't that were before. However, if you run them, they function normally. I have used App2SD to move programs (I'm assuming the ones that aren't listed as installed). I wonder how this will affect the updating process.

I'm glad to be getting this update, if only to ease my mind about what everybody says about Samsung, mainly that they don't support their phones well once released. This is what, the second or third update since it came out?

I hate it when "updates" remove features! The previous update removed the nice screen bounce. Now we loose scrolling wallpaper. I understand why Samsung is doing this (Apple!) but it still sucks to loose features when you are expecting to gain something. Use an alternative launcher if you want scrolling wallpaper. Go Launcher is pretty nice.

The EL29 will be my first update since getting my SGS2. I'm afraid of it, because I've heard so many scary stories about updates.

So ... can anyone tell me why I SHOULD update? What will EL29 do for my phone that's good. What BAD can I expect? The sound of the flip-floppy wallpaper is not nice. What else?

Agreed! I hate losing features. How is Apple involved in this?

I up graded my phone yesterday and by the afternoon the BUGS have showen UP :mad::mad:

In the afternoon, evening I started to notice that my time kept changing between Mountain & Pacific (I live in Arizona near California, NOT in it!)
My battery went from 99% at 10PM to 24% at 7AM this morning with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth & GPS turned off and sounds set way down for the night.
(I checked and fount that over the 8+ hours the Android OS used 84% of the power.)

There may be more..... I just waiting....
I recommend for every one to wait till fools like me find the problems..:o

Lateck,

Several people have said that they are getting better battery life with EL29, but not me. It seems like it drains down much quicker. Display is at 39%, Android OS is 34% and Android System 13%. It also says it's been on battery 10h 57m and it was on the charger about 4 hours ago. I'll have to keep an eye on it charging.

I went to settings/about phone/system updates/android and it said it was up to date. I then powered off/on and when it came back on, there was a message that said update available. The update took awhile so don't get impatient and let it finish.

I just had the ota update pushed to me tonight. So it's still rolling out. Took about 6 to 8 mins. Be patient and let it do its thing. Seems smooth.. No bugs.
