Eligible for new phone on Nov 6...what should I get?

Got my OG Droid the day it was released last November and have been loving it. What I love most is how customizable it is and easily rooted. But I'll be eligible for a new phone Nov 6th and am not sure what to do.
I really like the Droid X...have a few friends who have it. But Tegra 2 is coming out in January. Some of the other phones out there look pretty sweet but I love that Droids just seem to have the biggest following of people and devs throwing out custom ROMs and various apps that are only for rooted phones.
So...what should I do? Get a new phone? If so, which one? Or should I wait for something better?

Moved this to the lounge. Not so much because it probably belongs here...but because here you will find a lot more opinions from people with different devices.

I would wait until something better comes out but don't go overboard (there is ALWAYS something better around the corner). I am not eligible for an upgrade until next summer :( so I already have that mindset of waiting. I just don't know that there is anything out currently that is a HUGE upgrade to the OG Droid. 256MB of more RAM, HDMI out (which I probably won't use) 8MP camera with 720p, and/or possibly getting a bigger screen are all nice upgrades. But I'm hoping that we start to see some "real" advancements soon.

Yeah, there's just something nice about getting a new phone, but you're right on all points. The more I read about the T2 the more I like the idea of holding out until January. Hopefully it lives up to the hype.

The only way to find out will definitely be to wait. We know that the Tegra 2 and multi-core CPU's are on the horizon. LTE is also on the way and, by next summer, that'll likely change the smartphone landscape

Speaking from experience the Droid X is an awesome phone... but by January it'll be close to end-of-life. The life cycles of these phones are getting shorter and shorter.

Not true. This phone looks like it's working just fine and I think it's a little older

:D

I was just going to say that... I love my droid X and it is an amazing phone and has been for 3 months. And I'll be quite happy for the length of my 2 year contract. But I think at this point you might as well wait and see what comes out around the holiday season. Maybe see what LTE brings. Its not that the X isnt a great phone-- it certainly is-- but since its been out for 3 months now its kinda pointless, and I would say that with any phone due to the rate that technology is progressing.

OR, you could probably find a great deal on a used droid x at this point.

I would go with the HTC Merge which is supposed to come out on November 11th, if you don't go for that though I would wait for LTE.
