Lurker
Dear all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I have had my GS3 for about a week now, and after a bit of a learning curve, I have just about got my head around Android. I came from a Nokia E72!

One problem that I have is that on the email shortcut, and the messages shortcut, the message count stays the same, even after I have read the message. It's getting a bit irritating now, as I keep looking at the home screen, and thinking I have a message and it simply the counter has not updated. It goes up, but never down.

It will correct itself if I restart the phone. But shouldn't have to. Any one got any ideas??

Ben.

I think that there was a similar problem with some people's HTC One X. I might check over in their forums to see how it was resolved.

My counter just kept going up and would not actually sync with my hotmail (if i deleted on computer did not sync with phone all mails still showed). I just switched to the actual hotmail app.

Oh well i will revisit in the future if they update.

Hmm, funny...after having an iphone with the exact same problem and NO SOLUTION after like 2 years, I have yet to have this problem with the GSIII. However, I have switched out the default email for gmail, and the default messenger for GoSMS (though the default messenger didn't have your problem to begin with). Do you have push notifications enabled? That may fix your problem. Another option is to download Nova Launcher and then Tesla Unread to replace your unread counts on the regular TouchWiz.

I believe I have the answer as this happened to me. Everybody listen up....

Hold down home and clear your RAM. This will erase the counter on your phone. Then go to menu/settings/developer options/apps/uncheck "do not keep activites"

I did 2 battery pulls, 3 factory restarts until I was determined to find the culprit. Try it and let me know....

I'm having this issue as well and I found the only solution is the advanced app killer that I installed as this clears the messages.

Ys, annoying

This use to happen years ago. According to AT&T you were supposed to remove your battery, remove the SIM card, and then after a minute or so, put it all back together...

Not sure if this still works. But, try and see. I remember posting this in another thread...

Just tried this as well. Again, it seems to have no effect. Suggestions are still wecome!
