Email App Questions

Hi all, I'm new to the whole android world with my new Samsung S4. I made the move over from blackberry. One feature I did like on the blackberry that when deleting an email it gave you some choices such as a)delete on the phone only, b) delete from the phone and the server.

I can't seem to find this option at all in the native gmail client, maybe I'm missing something here. Or perhaps there's an app that I can use to access my gmail that would give me those options.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks
Peter

Android's email works much differently than Blackberry's. The only way you will be able to delete the email on the server when it's deleted from the phone is if you are using IMAP for your email. If you have POP email it will not delete from the server.

It seems like you need to take advantage of Gmail's IMAP protocol and change the way that you think about email. Unlike POP mail (which doesn't automatically synchronize) Google's IMAP based mail system syncs all mail (Inbox, Sent, Deleted, Saved, etc.) between all of your Android devices, PCs, Macs, etc. Your deleted mail remains on Gmail's servers in the deleted mail folder and is accessible (just in case you made a mistaken deletion.) Mail is smartly cached in and out of your Android device as needed. Why would you need those two different delete options? Why would you want your devices and the server to get out of sync and require manual clean-up?

FYI: Microsoft's (Hotmail, Live Mail, MSN Mail, Outlook.com) email system uses MAPI protocol which not only synchronizes all of your mail folders between your devices but also syncs calendars and contacts-- which is particularly nice for users of Microsoft Outlook.

How obnoxious are the ads in Maildroid? Im also looking for a mail client. I'm trying out InoMail Lite currently. But will sure look @ another tll I find one I like.

The ads are at the very bottom and out of the way. I find them to be non-interfering with my interaction with the app.
If you find you like the app and want an ad free version you can choose to purchase the app, although it is rather expensive.

Well I have tried maildroid after trying practically all email clients available that will say they work with OWA. I have to say that maildroid is the ONLY one that will work with MS Exchange 2010.

Reason I say this this, my work place does not allow Android users any access to activesync. My blackberry was working great with Exchange via BIS. So the only way I was allowed access to my work email was exchange webmail.

Maildroid seems to be able to handle the OWA URL and then pull the email into the client. I can say that none of the others could do this. So this truly is a great solution for me, where I want a unified email box for exchange, gmail..etc.
