Help Email count keeps going up and up

I am using the built in email and have it linked to my AOL, Gmail, Samsung and Facebook accounts. It doesn't seem to matter how many emails I read, delete or move to other folders, the count just keeps going higher and higher on the shortcut on the home screen. I can't figure out to clear or reset this. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

BTW.....I am a relative newbie so would appreciate the "GS3 for Dummies" version...

Mine did this at 1st. The email count on the icon did not seem to update. But now the issue seems to have gone away. I didnt do anything, it resolved itself somehow

Firechicken...I sure hope mine resolves itself too. It's up well over 1000....
