I am having the same issue. I spent over 3 hours searching last night and can not figure out a way to do it on my Asus Transformer Prime. I tried one work around provided, but it did not work on the tablet, but it did work directly in a PC interface to Gmail. The sole reason I got this tablet was to help me keep organized for scouting and coaching activities.

Try app called gangbook

Contacts GroupU can do that, both with text and email.

I have an Atrix 4G that thru the stock contacts apps, I can create group list. You might want to try and see if the stock contacts app will allow this before using a 3rd party app.

That might be from using Blur.
