How can I get my email icon to show the amount of unread messages in by inbox without having to open the app up?

My desire used to display a little 1 or 2 (number of messages) I can't seem to get that now

any ideas?

Thanks

I spent ages trying to do this, So this is all from my personal research. I found there are a few options depending on the app (that's why I asked)

I haven't used the gmail app, so I havnt tested this but if you type in gmail unread count in the play store there are a few options worth trying.

The easiest option I have previously used and it works well is to use k9 mail, and download the k9 unread count widget https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEsIm1zLmp1bmcuYW5kcm9pZC5rOWljb24iXQ..

There is a more complicated option (which I now use) but it involves buying 'nova launcher prime' and using 'teslaunread' or 'missed it!' applications. Teslaunread only does certain apps, but missed it does any app which use the notification bar

At the time of my enquiries (only a few months ago) nova launcher prime was the only launcher that supported missed it.

That may have changed though so may be worth contacting the Apex developer to ask them to confirm for you.

John :)

Yes that looks ideal seems you use gmail anyway. May be worth emailing the dev for a try before you buy (they say you can do that in the description) as some of the reviews are a bit low.

Here's a screen shot of mine, fairly basic layout but that's how I personally like it lol. Its using nova and missed it together to get the counts.
I couldn't believe what a hassle it was just to do this, I spent hours researching and asking questions but it is a feature I had become used to on previous phones so decided to spend the money on the launcher and app. The widget on the bottom left is a 'Missed It!' widget.

Got it. Only 50p. Seems fast, changes reliably and sitls neatly on the Homescreen. Sweet.
