Email txt attachment-Unsupported File Type

tecboy

Newbie
Droid 4 syncing corp email with Exchange Active Sync using the native email client. I receive emails with txt attachments from my nightly server backups(Backup Exec). When i open the email on the Droid, the txt attachment shows unsupported file type...BUT...if i take the same email in Outlook and forward to myself then the phone will open the txt attachment with Quick Office. I also tried forwarding the email to myself from the phone but the attachment still shows unsupported file type..The txt file is only about 20kb so it isnt a size problem..

It simple means that Unsupported file types are file extensions that your device does not know what to do with. There is no program installed on the device associated with a particular file type. To open an unsupported file type you must first install the program that the file uses to work with it.

I get this error message a lot.
At this point_ I'm not sure of which application on the market could do so.

The file manager EStrongs File Explorer can do many things, also reading and editing txt files :)

With a txt attachment, the mail app should open it with ES automatically.

if the attachment didnt open at all i would understand needing an app to open it...but if i forward the same email to myself from MS Outlook then open on the phone, the txt attachment will open correctly using Quick Office app..i am trying to figure out why the txt attachment wont open by default without forwarding the email to myself outside of the phone..

Pure speculation: the char code of the txt.
Maybe QuickOffice doesn't recognize it at first time.
Outlook may convert the char code and this time QuickOffice can read the txt.

possibly...but when i forward from Outlook...i never open the attachment...so i doubt outlook is doing anything with the formatting of the attachment

Can QuickOffice open directly this txt attachment?
I mean, open it in the Download folder.

on the original email...i cant even save the attachment...it just shows unsupported file type...i tried clicking on the attachment and also long pressing my finger on it...nothing...the save icon doesnt even appear as an option
