Help email without wifi

Don't mean to intrude, but I use everything without WIFI. That's a necessity for me since I spend the summers in the sticks (Poconos PA) without cable, TV, or any of that cityfolk fancy stuff:-). I use PDANET to tether my computer to the external world and spend evening watching movies on discs instead of that wonderful TV news! I keep supplied with films from Netflix and the local library and watch at least one per evening. Doesn't that all sound exciting??

How does this help diagnose a connection problem for the OP'er. We are trying to find out if they have a Data problem so they can get their email without being connected to Wi-Fi.

I have a lady friend that just asked me to figure out why she can't upload pics to facebook unless she's on wifi....she does have a data connection and can use the internet....just won't upload a photo. I'm wondering if there is a setting somewhere on her phone that got flipped and that is similar to the OP's????

I have a GNex and I haven't gotten to her phone yet to play around to see what I see....I'll report back if I find something.

If you are in a weak data area there will be problems using the internet and uploading files. It all depends on signal strength. If your phone is on 2G/Edge it will not get to the net or upload files. You need a good strong 3G/4G connection.

I have a similar problem. I can use Internet and download Gmail using HSDPA but can't get emails using Samsung app or K9 and some other apps. I have tried secure and unsecure connections to my email account. Connect to wifi and everything works. My phone is S3 9300T Any suggestions appreciated!

I have an S3 and I've been trying to figure out why I cannot send emails unless I'm on my wifi. If I have a 4G connection...email will just sit in the failed/unsent box till I get home to my wifi, then I can hit try again and it will send. Anyone know if it's possible to send email on a 4G connection?

I have the exact problem with my Galaxy S3 where I can only send/receive emails while connected to wifi. My SP is Verizon and I was on with tech support for 2 hours to finally prove to them that there is a problem as the guy tried accessing the webmail address from his own S3 and it worked with wifi but not when wifi was off. He picked up an iPhone and tried it and voila, it worked fine so it must be a Samsung problem. Just spoke to Samsung and they are opening a report to research this problem. Has anyone gotten this resolved?

As an update to my earlier post here...I still have the same problem with only being able to send email while connected to wifi, as they will just sit in the outbox while on a 4G connection. I am very much looking forward to any response from Samsung with regards to any report/research.

However, what might be of interest to the OP and those dealing with the same issue, it seems this problem is only with my 'regular' email account. I experimented a bit and after attempting to send emails via my 'gmail' account (the one I opened when I got this android phone), those sent without fail while connected to both 4G and 3G! So far, it's been working. If you all would try that, I'd like to hear if it works for you.

Hi All, this should work

I managed to solve this problem by going into system settings > data usage > exchange services. At the bottom there is an option called Restrict background data. Turn this off, and you should be fine.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that. I will give it a try. I downloaded the Yahoo app to read emails and this works OK
