Emergency Calls Only!!

Hopefully someone can help me.

For the past week of so, my HTC One X has been losing it's signal, either saying "Sim Card Not Inserted" or "Emergency Calls Only".

I took my phone back and refunded it for a Nexus 4, but the problem is still persistent, however only says "Emergency Calls Only".

I'm not sure if this is relevant, but I recently went to Germany, and called Orange to activate my roaming services.

Any ideas?

I would lean towards a bad Sim card or your tower is having major issues.

Sounds like a SIM card issue.

Remove your sim card and use a static-free cloth (like you get with screen protectors or sunglasses) to dry wipe your card. Also check the contacts and for any other debris in the SIM card slot.

If that doesn't fix it, contact Orange and get a new SIM. I had a SIM die on me the other year and the symptoms were very similar to what you're seeing.
