Emulator always running in the background?

I recently installed an emulator called john gbc lite that plays game boy color games. I got a game for it and was playing it, and When I was done, I closed it, got rid of all my running apps. And looked up in the top left corner and noticed the symbol for the emulator app was still there. I pull down my notifiaction bar and it says " John GBC lite- pokemon crystal is running"
I got a task manager and killed all the apps, but still it is there. It won't go away, and it may be my imagination but it seems my battery is draining faster. Anyone have this happen to them? Any way to fix it?

What do you mean disable it? I want to keep playing it because I just started.

How did you close the app? Some games/apps you need to press the actual exit button, not just back or home.

Does it offer the ability to save game status? If not, you may need to keep it running or you'll have to start over.

there is a save game feature, And there is NO menu that lets you exit the game I just press the home button and clear my multitasking. It went away over night though. So I don't know how to fix it
