Enable/Disable GPS based on app need??

Looking for a way to have GPS turn on when Navigation, Maps or any app that needs GPS is opened then have GPS disable when the app is closed. Is there any way to do this with Smart Actions? I see mention of Tasker being better than Smart Actions...If Smart Actions wont do this, will Tasker?

Also heard AutomateIt does it also, but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet.
