Help Encypted Phone - Lost data connection and signal

Setting up my android phone to receive work emails.

Part of the process is encyption of my device. Everything worked fine - device encypted, work emails received. Happy days!!!

However, I was unable to get any data connection and I had no phone signal. WIFI still worked.

Ended up having to reset phone.........

Any ideas why this happened?

Acer Liquid E2 on 3 Network.
