Ending a Call?

Seems like a silly question but I've left to voice messages today (while in speaker) and both times my screen rurned off. With my old iPhone I just had to talk the screen to bring it back and then I coumd end the call. When I'm done leaving a message and the screen is off, I couldn't bring it back. I had to hit the power button, swipe to unlock and finally end the call. This didn't make me feel too safe while driving.

There has to be a better way for ending a call. I must be missing something.

I'm not sure if it's only in the custom ROM that I'm using, but if you go into menu-> settings-> accessibility there it's an option to use the power button to end calls.

You can also use apps to keep your screen on. Smart app protection can do this (while password-protecting apps. I password protect all apps needing root or can remove my phone taking software (package installer, market, task manager, etc.).
