I apologize in advance for my lack of in-depth knowledge - I'm not an idiot but I am also not an expert here, so bear with me please!
My HTC Amaze 4g randomly entered a perpetual reboot today. And not even a total reboot - just black screen, then the HTC white splash screen, then black, then white, etc etc etc. Forever, I presume, if I allow it.
The first thing I did was to remove the case and see if the power button was stuck or something, but it's fine. I removed the battery and powered it on again, only to have the same thing happening.
I then experimented with the USB cable (wall charging - which had the same effect, and connecting to PC and restarting - which made a serious of 'connecting' noises in windows 7 but ultimately did not connect and was inaccesible from my PC, just continued rebooting).
After some quick research, I attempted a hard factory reset. I was able to get to the Hboot screen (and tried it after removing the battery, and while connected by USB) but once I selected 'recovery' or 'factory reset' or even 'clear storage', the menu would proceed to a similar menu with the following 4 options:
Bootloader
Reboot
Reboot bootloader
Fastboot
Selecting any of these would just bring me back to the initial menu. Nothing happened. I tried every possible selection.
(My phone is locked, if that matters, and I've never done any tweaking or anything like that).
Now while the simplest answer might be to take the phone directly into telus (I'm in Canada) for repair, I have a slight issue with that ONLY because I'm concerned about some data stored on my phone, which is extremely sensitive. I don't have a removeable SD card in the phone right now, everything is stored on the phone's built-in memory. If I can avoid the telus guy having access to the photos, videos, and SMS messages stored on the phone, I'd REALLY like to. (Ridicule away, I know I deserve it!)
Does anyone have any advice to offer, or am I going to have to head into the telus store and leave without my dignity?
