Energy saving, 4G and alarms

I’ve been trying to squeeze out as much time as possible from the battery of my new SIII 4G, which I’ve seen people agree is probably its weakest point. Using the helpful advice of many people here and in other forums, I think I’ve disabled most battery-draining, not-so-useful features and bloatware. I only have twoquestions:

  • How much of a difference in battery usage do you think “smart stay” makes? I kind of think it’s useful for me ‘cause I often read on the phone screen and don’t scroll for a while; but then again… I could just lengthen the time until it dims?
  • Again, simply turning off the mobile data connection is enough or would you switch to “GSM only” (Edge?)? It’s a couple of taps vs. a slightly longer process… Also, I’ve noticed that I can’t easily switch back on to 4G

Oh, and now that my alarm has gone off… Do you guys think it’s a bit too tame? I manage to sleep through it in the mornings... Didn't use to happen on my HTC One!
