Enter a URL without searching?

How can I enter a URL into the browser so that the browser will attempt a connection without doing searches, etc? I tried the default browser and also downloaded Firefox but both seem to have the combo Address/Search box and I cannot find any option to open/enter a URL directly.

You are using the appropriate TLD for the site, e.g. .com .net .cn .hk .uk etc.? If not the browser will assume it's a search rather than a URL.

If you enter say androidforums.com the browser should just go straight to this site, but if you just entered androidforums into the browser it will search. "http://" should be assumed by modern browsers, no need to enter it specifically.

Ok, I found I was using the google search option via hitting the main menu button and sliding up. That option opens a browser with no way to enter a URL directly, all goes through google search.

By running chrome directly I can enter a URL.

Thanks.
