Root epic problem!

Hey there folks I kinda have a problem that's been annoying me a lot lately, you see I got this samsung epic 4g that I happened to buy like 6 months ago, I'm from mexico and this phone was given to me from a friend in usa, anyway I know the phone is rooted because it has the superuser and also because he told me it was, problem is that when the ota update appeared for the first time I accepted I and the phone crashed, unfortunately I didn't had any backup so that pretty much sucked, anyway now I really think that I need to update it but I'm scared that will happen the same so here's the question... how do I update my rooted epic? The current version is 2.2.1.

OTA update can't be done when your rooted. This will wipe your data and you'll need to re-root. If you have questions as to how I'll be watching this thread so post them here.
