Erm. Hi?

H'lo. New Android user. Older phone (an HTC MyTouch 3G), but it's a huge upgrade from what I was using before (LG KS360). I'm still in the "whoa, my phone can do THAT?" phase of things, but gradually learning that even awesomeness has limits. Which is kinda how I ended up here. It didn't take long to figure out that downloading every app that sounded awesome was not the best way to go, so I started googling the things that I did want. Pretty much every search turned up these forums at the top, and I figured if I'm gonna spend that much time here by accident, I might as well sign up. And since the little droidy guy seems kinda big on me introducing myself, here I am.

'Kay, so. I've been hanging around here for a couple of weeks, and I dunno that anyone ever comes back and reads these, but I figured this was the best place to post my impressions of the forums.

So here's the thing. If there was a button to click to give thanks to the whole forum, I'd do it. When I chose Android (I even chose a nook over a Kindle because it runs on an Android platform), I knew exactly one thing about it: it was open source. That was all that mattered to me, 'cause it says "we are confident enough in our technology that we are not afraid to share it with everyone".

Now, I know the most popular apps (and why), how to fix common problems, why I shouldn't use a task killer, why my battery was draining like crazy (hint: not all things with "panda" in the name are a good idea), how to root my phone (which I'm still not gonna do yet, but likely will in the future), and that Android fans are, overall, an incredibly helpful bunch of folks.

More important, though, is that I actually have an interest in Android. I care why it works the way it does, what future upgrades will bring, where the overall technology is headed... I can find myself staring at my monitor (or my phone screen) at ungodly hours of the morning, fascinated by some article about Android, that linked to another article, that linked to yet another... I have a better understanding now about what Android is, and I'm even happier that I chose it over other platforms. I can't imagine being this interested in iOS. It is what it is, and it does what it does. If SJ and his group want it to do or be something else, it will, and they'll issue another press release. Booooring.

So anyway, yah. Thanks, forum folks, for introducing me to this marvelous world.
