Android Pay Question

I am trying to load my debit card into Android Pay. When I submit the information, I get an error message: "credit cards can't be used with this product." My bank is working with several entities trying to get help with this. At one point, Google was contacted and they said this was a known error and it had to do with the chip on my card. Has anyone else encountered this?
