Help Error when trying to update

I have the AT&T version of the S3. I read that there has already been a software update out for the phone. Every time I "check for updates" this comes up:
Communication Failed
The server is currently unavailable. Your device will automatically check for an update within the next 48 hours.

This happens every time I try to update. Does anyone else have this problem? Or should I get a new phone?
Thanks

I get the same thing. While I wonder if there is some error in the AT&T update infrastructure, I'm not too concerned since the "update" removes capabilities that existed in my Palm Pilot in 1998, were subsequently "patented" by Apple in 2008, and now must be removed to satisfy one idiot judge in California.

As an aside, Windows has had this kind of universal search from the Start Menu for a very long time. Does that count as prior art as well?

When Jelly Bean starts to get pushed, I'll get concerned if I still can't get an OTA update. In the meantime, I'll just enjoy the only phone that terrifies Apple.

Similar error occured to me too. I'll suggest two things;

1) Try to update via Kies on your computer.

2)Try to take out your sim card, reboot your phone without the sim card and then search for updates. My phone couldnt update with sim on but when i searched updates without sim card, it worked.

İ hope these will be helpful

Do I really WANT to update? Is there anything positive or beneficial that I'm getting? Or is it just to take away that "universal search" thing?

Does anyone know? If it's just the latter, I won't waste my time in searching out and performing the update and wasting 1/2 hour of my life.
