ES File Explorer question - network storage visibility to aps

sb4

Lurker
I have installed ES File Explorer on a Galaxy Note 8 tablet, and successfully connected to a network storage share (USB drive plugged into my router). I can browse the NAS files using ES File Explorer.

My goal is to allow aps on my tablet to access these NAS files. For example, when browsing for files from Polaris Office, I do not seem to have visibility to the network storage -- I just see a root folder called "sdcard0".

Is ES File Explorer capable of creating a folder visible to all aps based on cloud or network storage? This seems like a very common need, but when I read any documentation on ES File Explorer I do not see direct reference to this need. To be as clear as possible -- I'm just basically trying to create the equivalent of a public share in windows, where you map a drive to a shared folder and all applications can use it.

AndSMB's syncing capabilities might be adequate for your needs. E.g., you make a folder on your Android the "master" for syncing with a directory on your NAS. Then in principle you can edit the Android file and have your changes automatically propagate to the NAS.

It also has Android "Intent" support which makes it possible, in principle, to write you own app which would loosely integrate with both AndSMB and (for example) Polaris Office.
