ES File Explorer "Send By LAN" feature not working

lordbear

Lurker
Environment: I'm on a Galaxy S4 (VRUAME7) using ES File Explorer 3.0.9.1

Desired Functionality: I would like to transfer pictures from the phone to the laptop over WiFi using ES File Explorer's "Send By LAN" feature to my Windows 7 laptop.

Problem: Sharing from Gallery and choosing "Send by LAN" shortcut created by ES File Explorer results in "scanning" but not finding a target.

Actions Taken:
-- Created "server" connection to Windows 7 laptop using IP address and shared subfolder.
-- Verified connection works, and I can list Windows shared folder contents and R/W files.
-- From Gallery app click Share icon, choose "Send by LAN". Popup "scanning" appears and does NOT find any targets. In Android's "WiFi" screen I can verify I have a functioning WiFi connection to my local network.

I've seen other posts on other forums but no answers. It does not appear that EStrong's offer direct support (that I have found). Any help?
Thanks in advance

Hey bear. Sorry I'm far from an expert on networks lol. I actually first used that ES feature yesterday to send a file from my phone to my tab.
Have you tried sending it from within the ES app?
Thats what I did. Sorry if I'm way off the mark

The "send by lan" feature is poorly named - it allows sending files to another device on the same lan, but the other device must also be running ES File Explorer. When you do this, the other device pops up a confirmation window, asking you to accept the file being sent.

I too first thought it would allow me to send to another device on the LAN, which I had previously connected to in ES File Explorer. Though I have found the current functionality useful for transferring files from one Android device to another, I think being able to "share" to any destination configured in ES File Explorer would be far more useful.

Thanks for the info Mike.

Yeah, it's kind of misleading but then again naming it descriptively would be a bit unwieldy. :) "Send to ES client by LAN"? :)

Naming aside I dearly wish these apps had useful documentation. All I needed was a Help topic or a User Manual to describe the intended functionality.

Hm, as I think about it, I don't know why it shouldn't work. It seems to be based on SMB. Pretty standard protocol stack. *shrug*

I have in past sent files back and forth between Windows 7 pc and phone using es file explorer. Two different ways:
1-Using the lan screen to access shared directory of pc using phone (can get to that directory from either phone or pc...really really handy)
2-using remote manager to access phone from pc.

Both were temperamental in setting up connection ...neither is working now. Search Google and af for instructions

Select the file you want to send then select 'move to' from the more menu. Hit the up a level arrow in the list until you see the ip address of the computer you want to send to. Select the computer's ip address. Drill down to the shared folder you want to send to and OK it.

I do have the same problem with my nexus 7 (2013) to Windows 7. The nexus 7 is connected to the network to which the pc is connected as well. When I hid the send button it start scanning and it can not connect.
Where do I find the move to in the more menu?

Did you set up "File Sharing" on your Windows 7 PC?
