Help ES file explorer will not open photo on sd card unless file is renamed

https://android-1.com/en/2570-es-file-explorer-manager-pro.html

That looks like an older version of ES 1.1.4.1 from 2015. Is it fully compatible with Android 9, etc, like the OP's problem?

The current version of ES downloaded from their official site is 4.2.1.2. Which has intrusive ads and seems to require Wechat Pay to unlock the Pro features and kill all the ads. Of course I'm NOT willing to spend the equivalent of about $24 bucks to find out if it's any good or not
@mikedt Well look at it since its not longer on sale and since it's no longer on the play store, its no longer a pirated app and this was the latest version to date the one they have is different this was the version before original es file explorer news removed and this has no ads and it tries to check for license if the old one but since it's no longer exists it can't as long as your logged into a google account no matter if you paid for it or not it will not prevent you use the app as long as your logged into a google account :)

Has this app been removed from Google Play or renamed? I used an apk file from techbigs site but now it displays full of Chinese ads.

You can try downloading and installing directly from their site, estrongs.com, but use at your own risk.

FYI it's actually the same version of ES, with Chinese ads, Wechat Pay only, and incomplete English translation.

And absolutely no way am I tapping AGREE. :thumbsdowndroid:

Privacy. ES have had many privacy problems, and some security ones. Perhaps you don't care about your privacy, but as your phone contains other people's information as well as your own that would be a very selfish and short-sighted attitude to take.

I ditched ES years ago when the first problems emerged, long before Google removed it. Nothing would persuade me to reinstall it, and let's face it "famous" means absolutely nothing.

Incidentally I notice that there is an app back in the Play Store with the same name, same icon, different developer name (and just some burner gmail address as contact). I've seen this with other banned apps. I don't know whether this is estrongs pretending to be someone else (and Google being too lazy to spot it) or someone else hoping to pick up ES customers, but either way I'd avoid it. And as a final note, the link to their privacy policy is broken (which should be enough to get them removed from the Play Store if Google were serious).

ES FILE EXPLORE IS BEST
No, it's not--and there's really no need to SHOUT at us.
AND FAMOUS PERFORMANCE ALSO GOOD
Oh, it's famous, alright! Famous for its continuous phoning home to China, with lots of the innocent user's personal data.
WHY TRY ANOTHER?
Because there are better apps, without the privacy invasions.

My hands-down favorite is MiXplorer Silver, which has features ES never even dreamed of. :o

It's so good, and its features so powerful, I can now do various tasks on my Linux computers with my phone, tasks that used to involve writing/running scripts on the computers. That alone makes it better than the privacy-breaching ES! :D
