This would be a big help those who suspect a phone with a bad ESN. But, will it be accurate, if your supplied with a ESN / MEID, from a Sprint phone?
The politics of the phone carriers not withstanding, It's my understanding that one, or, the other carrier, will not allow, the other carriers phones/numbers, usage on their system (Sptint or Verizon, will not grant, or, accept phones of the other carrier).
Part of this is the GSM /CDMA differences of the phone, the rest is just political bad blood.
Most GSM phones can move to IE Cricket and others, simply by changing SIM cards.
But, also from what I've heard, a BAD ESN, is not necessarily a death sentence for a phone.
Most CDMA phones with a good or, bad ESN, can be Flashed, to a lesser carrier, set up as a PrePay phone (offering a good deal of savings to consumers), through carriers like Virgin, Boost Mobile (Sprint), or, MetroPCS (Verizon). Charges for flashing, will vary in price, availability in geographic areas, and, may affect the usability feature of a given phone once it's been done (So, check these services out, carefully first).
This can even be done online, with the phone tethered to the computer, and allowing remote access.
Hope this helps clear the air a little.
