Help Esteem 'Downloading...' WHAT?

My phone will shut itself down in the middle of a text, web search, etc., to a black screen that claims:

'Downloading is in progress. Do not disconnect cable.'

Great, I would definitely let it do it thing and download...but what is it downloading? Why is it downloading and asking me to not disconnect its cable when I'm clearly nowhere near my home (hence, not connected to said cable).

This is frustrating, it does it whenever it feels ready to (which is about 5x a day, and I got this phone on Tuesday).

Anyone know if this is a glitch or if I should just let it download for a couple of hours?

This is a bug LG already addressed. Check your phone info and see what SW you have. If it says ZVA you should upgrade to ZVB. You can upgrade the phone from LGs website or go to a Corp Metro store and request to have it pushed or FOTA to your phone.
