ETF Question

Newbie
I would like to get a Galaxy S3.I don't want a LTC and i don't want to pay $650 for an OOCP.Could i,go to like best buy, sign the contract, bring it home and cancel the agreement and keep the phone and just pay the ETF?I think that is $350 with AT&T.
I plan on using it for straight talks BYOP.I have one of their cheapy phones ATM and would like something more responsive..I like their service,i have good signal.
Thanks for any help...

Third party retailers will often charge you an ETF as well. So if you got it from Best buy for $50, then break contract they're going to charge you $150 additional.

In the event that you do find a 3rd party retailer that does not charge an ETF, I'd like to just say that gaming the system like this gives carriers the excuse to screw us all, so I'd implore you not to do it.

If you don't have $550 for a GS3, get yourself a Galaxy Nexus from the Play Store for $350. No contract, a truly great phone that many would argue is better than the GS3, and will work with ATT out of the box with no activation fee.

I dont agree that .. if the OP agrees to pay the EFT to break his contract.. this does NOT screw the carrier.
1st .. it is part of the agreement.. and the customer is honoring it.
2nd.. the carrier is getting $350.. and the original $200 the customer paid when the customer got the phone. total $550.
3rd.. when the customer signs a new 2 yr contract.. the carrier wins.

so.. if the OP finds that it is worth it for them to pay the EFT.. and get out of contract.. then sign a new contract to get the phone they want. then all are happy.

I do agree.. that the OP should take into consideration where he got the phone he is about to cancel. if he got it from a 3rd party to get a better savings.. then there might be a cancellation charge there too! but this is normally less than 6months commitment.
